Q5: What non-Microflown sensors are compatible with Acoustic Camera software?

It is possible to connect a tachometer to the system and record audio and RPM information simultaneously. Also standard microphones and accelerometers are compatible.

Q7: What is the spatial resolution of the Acoustic Camera?  

In the near field it is the same as the spacing between the probes. The maximal resolution with mini probes can be 4cm (minimum spacing between PU-mini). With the match probes it can be about 1cm.

Q8: At what distance can I measure sound Intensity and velocity for the near field sound source localization? 

In most of the applications a distance of 5-10cm from the surface allows to have a good intensity measurement even in non-anechoic environments avoiding reactivity problems. The velocity has to be measured as close as possible to the surface to approximate the structural vibration and to get the best signal to noise ratio.

Q9: What is the frequency range valid to measure intensity or velocity in the near field?

This depends on the distance from the surface. As a rule of thumb:

Particle velocity: 0.1-10.000 Hz
Intensity: 400-10.000 Hz
Pressure: 20-10.000 Hz

Q10: Is the resolution of the Acoustic Camera frequency dependent?

No, the spatial resolution depends on the spacing between probes.

Q11: What is the dynamic range of the Acoustic Camera? 

The dynamic range of the particle velocity sensor is not constant in frequency but typically is 40 dB higher than a pressure sensor.

Q12: Can the signals be reviewed and analyzed in real time? 

Acoustic Camera software version 1.25 has a very complete real time viewer tool to obtain an overview of what is being recorded.

Q13: Can the recorded signals be replayed?  

Yes, all time signals can be replayed alone and synchronized with the video information.

Q14: To which formats can the data be exported? 

Acoustic Camera software allows exporting the recorded time data into several standard formats: “.unv”, “.uff” and “.mat”.

Q15: How is the connection between PC and frontend performed?

From 2 to 24 channels the USB connection is used to link the frontend to the PC. Above 24 channels a firewire connection is required (Heim System).

Q16: What is the maximum channel count of the Acoustic Camera?  

With the Acoustic Camera the minimum channel count is 24 channels (12 probes) up to 96 (48 probes).

Q17: Can I use a different frontend to Heim?  

With Microflown Acoustic Camera you can only use the Heim frontend.

Q18: What type of array can be build up to perform the measurements?

Several types of mountings are available. From a hand held regular grid to scattered array based on: Surface mountings (14 Hz resonance frequency), non-contact mountings (goosenecks, tripod based). This allows maximal flexibility on the probes setup.

Q19: What is PNCAR?

PNCAR - is Panel Noise Contribution Analysis Reference-Related. With the same hardware of the acoustic camera, it is possible to measure transfer function and airborne transfer path analysis to synthetize pressure in some interest position, for example the driver’s seat in a car.
