PU Sound Intensity Probe: Enhancing Sound Intensity Testing
The PU Probe is a sound intensity probe that integrates two distinct sensing technologies: a traditional microphone (P) and a Microflown sensor (U). By measuring both sound pressure and acoustic particle velocity directly, it overcomes most constraints typically associated with traditional sound intensity PP probes. This feature enables sound intensity measurements to be carried out in-situ, under real operating conditions, without the necessity for an acoustically treated environment. Owing to this operational flexibility, PU sound intensity probes are suitable for a broad spectrum of challenging conditions, including environments with high reverberation or enclosed spaces like vehicle interiors.
Measuring all acoustic information with a single probe
The Microflown PU probe offers a unique capability to simultaneously capture all the acoustic information available at any given point within a sound field. This accessibility to detailed acoustic data streamlines the process of accurately identifying and quantifying the acoustic output from various sound sources. The probe's broadband response covers an extensive frequency range (20 Hz to 14 kHz), allowing for direct measurements of sound pressure, particle velocity, and sound intensity. Crucially, this comprehensive data collection is achieved without the need to introduce any assumptions or computational errors, ensuring the highest levels of precision and accuracy in acoustic analysis.
